Macon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA)
Our Mission
Macon County EMA's mission is to help our communities prepare for emergencies, respond effectively, recover efficiently, and reduce the impact of future disasters.
Our goal is to build preparedness and resiliency throughout Macon County through strong partnerships, effective planning, education, training, and community engagement.
EMA works to protect our communities by coordinating emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts throughout Macon County. EMA works with local governments, public safety agencies, healthcare organizations, schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and state and federal partners to build a safer and more resilient community.
EMA coordinates countywide emergency planning and preparedness for a wide range of hazards, including severe weather, flooding, hazardous materials incidents, transportation emergencies, public health emergencies, critical infrastructure disruptions, and other events that may threaten the health, safety, and well-being of the community.
Through planning, training, exercises, public education, emergency communications, resource coordination, and partnerships, EMA helps ensure that Macon County and its communities are prepared to respond effectively when emergencies occur. During significant incidents, EMA facilitates coordination among responding agencies and supports local jurisdictions through the County Emergency Operations Center.
Regional Preparedness and Response
Macon County EMA also participates in regional, state, and federal emergency management initiatives and works with neighboring jurisdictions and partner agencies to strengthen coordinated response capabilities. These partnerships help ensure that resources, information, and expertise can be shared when an incident exceeds the capabilities of a single community.
